Here are some simple tips that you can follow to write good adverts and maximize your response rates.
1. Snappy and relevant titles.
Use an attention grabbing title but
also keep it relevant. However, if you use outlandish and
irrelevantly worded titles your viewing figures will plummet.
Keeping titles clear, to the point and descriptive invites the best response.
2. Clear, accurate description.
Use at least one full paragraph to
describe your product or service.
Generally, adverts with a fuller
description tend to receive better responses than shorter ones. Other sites severely
restrict word counts forcing advertiser to write one-liners but at Bloogalu Classified we enforce no such restrictions and encourage comprehensive, well written descriptions.
The Bloogalu search engine scours all adverts to pick up keywords so to ensure your advert is at the top of a search, use as many keywords in your description as possible. However, users must not try to list random words to climb the search rankings. Use keywords in your description sensibly.
3. List your key selling points.
Ideally you should write an
introductory paragraph and follow it up by writing a numbered list of
all the main selling points to bring out the key facts and features to a
potential buyer. Lists should be in the form of sentences not just keywords.
4. Use pictures.
Adverts that display images have a
much higher view and response rate than those without. Where possible,
use at least one main image if it is practical.
5. Select the correct city.
When you create an advert, you have
the option of selecting which Bloogalu Local website you would like to
display your advert in. If you are selling an item that requires
delivery, collection or is a region specific service then it may be better to select cities that are most appropriate rather than advertise in 'All Cities'.
6. Use multiple adverts for multiple items.
You should create multiple adverts where possible when advertising multiple items. This allows you to
describe and photograph each item individually and gives the viewer the
best possible impression of what you are selling. You may prefer to advertise some items or services locally whereas others you
may be able to supply nationally. Some items may fall under one
sub-category whilst others fall into another sub-category.
When users perform a search, it is
much more likely that one specific advert from your set will
appear at the top of the search results than a single advert that
includes many items and has an overall lower relevance.
These are just some of the circumstances where using multiple adverts would be better than writing one.
7. Edit or delete your adverts when necessary.
All members have access to a user
portal listed under the 'Member Options' on the homepage. From here,
users may edit or delete their adverts currently running live.
By following some of the tips above, your adverts should attract the maximum view and response rates.

Suspicious Emails

Scammer alert
Bloogalu Classified has enjoyed a great deal of success as an online classified advertising site and while we have built up a large following amongst our many users, unfortunately we sometimes attract scammers who are also plaguing other classified and auction sites.
At Bloogalu has a zero tolerance policy on this type of activity and while we are exceptionally good at removing inaccurate content from the site, scammers sometimes resort to other tactics such as contacting users directly which we have little control over.
If you receive a suspicious email requesting your details or offers of vast sums of money for an item you are selling, please forward that email on to admin@bloogalu.com and allow us to deal with it. As with any form of online activity, please remain alert when dealing with strangers.

Bigger Ads, Easier Creation & Easier Search
We have implemented some major changes to Bloogalu this week. Our goal was simply to make the adverts easier to read, easier to create and easier to find.
Here are the improvements you'll find:
All Advert
pages are now 50% bigger to allow you to describe your products, services and announcements better.
Support for large,
High Resolution photos - no more having to squint at postage size images.
Text is 50% larger for easier reading
Adverts are
double spaced for easier reading.
Advert
expiry dates have been increased so your ads remain online for much longer.
A one-paragraph
minimum word count for all new adverts to reduce annoying spammed adverts.
The ability to post your
adverts in multiple cities without having to post multiple adverts.
Cleanbot 1.1 will be enhanced to
Cleanbot 2.0
In the past users have had to choose between posting an advert in 'All Cities' or annoyingly had to post multiple adverts for each city they wanted to target. Now when you create an advert, by holding down the Ctrl key you may select multiple cities to display your advert. If you've had this annoying experience in the past you'll be dancing for joy over this new feature.
Although we haven’t yet capped the size of the photos being used, please do not upload photos above 1-2 megapixels (especially if you use multiple images) as your advert will take a very...... long time to load up and end up annoying viewers waiting for your ads to load up. Please be kind to our low bandwidth users and the Bloogalu servers as Scotty would have said, She cannae take nae mooore Cap'n !

Two New Categories for Pets and Vehicles

Specialised Categories Spun Out from Buy & Sell
The original Buy & Sell category has been heaving
with adverts for many months and we decided now was the perfect time to spin
off the pets and vehicle section as brand new categories.
Now the site is a lot more content balanced and the pets
and vehicles section will be enhanced offering more options for advertisers and
buyers in the coming weeks.
We are still tweaking with some of these settings and

All New Changes
A new main advertising category for ‘Professional Services’ has been launched. This section is now available to allow you to advertise your small business or start up to promote your services to the thousands of users who come to Bloogalu every day.
You may describe in detail the range of services you offer with photos of your work if applicable. You may receive useful business information from prospective clients through the contact box directly to your email address.
We believe this will prove to be a very useful section for businesses and individuals looking for a helping hand to market themselves and will go towards forming a business directory over the coming months.
Unfortunately as with all Bloogalu adverts, these will expire after 30 days so it is important to remember to renew your advert each month.
All of this comes completely free.
The original 'Accommodation' lettings category has been upgraded to 'Properties & Accommodation' and now displays both sales and lettings advert. Looking forward to an exciting 2008

You might have noticed that the old logo has been changed from the original colourful artwork to a plainer, cooler discrete design. Although we'll miss the original psychedelic design, we believe it makes the logo and the title standout better and more inline with the rest of the site design.

Advertising Guidelines for Members

New Rules
In the run up to Christmas, the number of adverts posted on Bloogalu is increasing rapidly and we’d like to take this opportunity to clarify the guidelines that users must follow when posting an advert.
Use multiple Adverts to promote multiple products
Single adverts should be used to promote single products or a group of similar products rather than an entire unrelated range. If you wish to advertise a range of differing products we would suggest that you post multiple adverts. Currently, users are allowed to post up to 10 free adverts per day.
Yes, you may include a link to your company website but...
You may include a link to your website, company and contact details in the advert description on the condition that the advert itself is for a specific products or service which must be clearly described and where appropriate, priced in the main body of the advert. Simply posting a website address on its own with no corresponding product or service will be seen as spam and removed.
When creating an advert, select the correct city to display your advert in.
The correct city (or your nearest city covered) must be selected when posting adverts that are region specific. This is particularly important for accommodation and property adverts. This is to prevent adverts specific to one particular city being inappropriately displayed in all 25 local Bloogalu websites. Users of Bloogalu Glasgow do not want to see London Flats advertised in their own regional website.
Posting an advert to be displayed in any particular city will result in that advert being displayed in that local Bloogalu website and also automatically in the Bloogalu National website.
Select the option to 'display advert in all regional websites' when your advert is non-region specific.
When you wish to advertise an opportunity, product or service open to users nationwide we encourage users to select the option to ‘display ads in all regional websites’. Your advert will then display in 25 regional Bloogalu Classified sites as well as Bloogalu National.
We hope these guidelines help to improve the quality of the adverts viewable to the user and provide a much better response rate for members choosing to advertise with us.
